Level 5 Twender game – Victorian Modern Cursive script

Here’s a fast, simple, free, downloadable spelling/blending game for 2-6 players.

You download it as a five-page pdf file from this website, then simply print two A4 pages of cards (depending on what sort of printer and paper you have: coloured ones on white paper, or black-and-white ones on coloured paper), laminate them (optional, for durability) and cut them up into 36 cards.

Deal out the cards, build a word with two cards (a consonant and a vowel, e.g. ch + ew to make “chew”), then take turns creating a new word by putting a new card on top of one of the existing cards (e.g. put “n” on top of “ch” to make “new”).

The winner is the person who gets rid of all their cards first, or whoever has the fewest cards once nobody can make any more words.

I’ve put a little video on YouTube to show you how it works, and the game includes an instructions page, if anything’s not clear.

This version is in Victorian Modern Cursive script, but please click here if you’d prefer it in Comic Sans font.

Please note that both games are exactly the same, apart from the font.

Great game – my kindergartener enjoys playing while we have breakfast or dinner. It involves lots of practice reading – and incidental discussion of homophones and acceptable real words compared to phonetically plausible but wrongly spelled words.

Thanks! I think you have one smart kindergartener.
