Oh, good point, though I haven’t been including names in the lists, but if I decide to include them I will definitely add the Star Wars characters. Thanks!

    Love your work Alison!
Do “viewer” and “viewing” belong in the /you/ area, along with “view”?

    • alison says:

Thanks for the nice feedback, Paul. ‘View’ is one of those ‘which way shall I slice this?’ words, you could decide it is /v/+/y/+/oo/ or /v/+/you/. I try to use Ockham’s Razor to decide such things, and there are no other words with ‘iew’ for ‘you’, whereas there are heaps of words with ‘i’ for /y/, like ‘onion’ and ‘stallion’ and ‘union’, and there are heaps of words with /oo/ spelt ‘oo’. So I’ve gone with the latter, to save creating a phoneme-grapheme correspondence that we don’t really need, a bit like classifying the word ‘you’ as /y/ as in ‘yes’ and /oo/ as in ‘soup’ rather than creating a new category just for the words ‘you’ and ‘youth’. Hope that makes sense! All the best, Alison
