Af-fix-it game 1

$AUD0.00

Quick, simple word-building and spelling game. Players take turns to combine one-syllable base words and the suffixes -s, -ed and -ing. When words end with one vowel letter then one consonant letter, players must double the last consonant letter before the vowel suffixes -ed or -ing (but not consonant suffix -s).

Description

Practise adding the suffixes -s, -ed and -ing to base words, then spelling them, doubling the last consonant only when required e.g. in ‘run-running’ but not ‘jump-jumping’ or ‘froth-frothing’.

This game is suitable for learners who can read and spell CVC, CVCC, CCVC and CCCVC words with any of the five one-letter ‘short’ vowels, and who know the consonant spellings ff, ll, sh, ch, th, ng, and ck (initial or basic code in many phonics teaching sequences). Our cards are printed on photo paper, so we didn’t have to spend time laminating them.

Players are Alison Clarke and Saoirse (thanks, Saoirse!). Georgina Ryan devised an earlier version of this game, which Elle Holloway helped develop and test.
