    You have many words that are not the number of phonemes you think. For example, thump has only 4 sounds. /TH/ is one sound, then /u/ /m/ /p/.

    Strung is only 4 phomemes as well. /s/ /t /r/ /ung/

      If you can tell me a one-syllable word that contains nine phonemes, sure. But I think the maximum is seven, three consonants either side of the vowel. There are some one-syllable words with four consonants after the vowel e.g. ‘twelfths’ and ‘texts’, but I’ve never found one that has three before and four after. All the best, Alison
